Can there be a long-distance relationship?

We ask this question at the beginning and at the end of our post-documentary performance. I guess the answer depends on what personal history we find ourselves in. Ukrainians in general found themselves in a midst of a war. Among other challenges they are experiencing the breakdown of relationships with their “close” ones. We say “close”, but there may be hundreds, thousands of kilometers between them now, as well as the pain of separation, the pain of war. Can they stay close when there is a huge distance between them? What helps them overcome the lack of simple physical contact? This play is the first step in the investigation of the fate of Ukrainian women abroad and Ukrainians who stayed at home.

With attention and respect, in this documentary hybrid performance, we propose to consider who we are and where we are at this moment in our common human history. Ropes, songs, and video projections help us to do this.
